Rambala Pair

When it looked like the 2.2 Rambala that I picked up in 2012 were more likely 3.1, I brought in another "female."

After treatment, and an eight month quarantine, she was good to go and went in with the spotted guy.

He's been calling nearly non-stop to her but she seems fairly uninterested. I did notice with the other pair that the females seem to take a while to settle in and respond so hopefully that's all it is and I don't have another male on my hands.

Rambala Babies

The first little 'Rambala' pumilio started coming out of the water this week. Nice coloration so far.

Already on the ground hunting

A bit behind and still keeping to the safety of the bromeliad

Ah, what a fun toy Instagram is!

First Rambala Clutch

After eight months I found the first Rambala clutch. I was starting to wonder if I had ended up with any females in this group. I trimmed back the viv significantly the other day so I imagine that prompted the mating. Very glad to know I don't have five males!

A couple hours later I walked in to the male watering this clutch. I rarely see this guy and was excited for the opportunity to take a couple pictures.

Here We Go Again

I can't help but sing the chorus to an old Shelter tune while posting this blog. Unfortunately, everyone from the recent shipment came back from the vet with nasties. Ugh! The Rambala had Crypto, the Rio Branco had nematodes, the red Bastimentos female had some crazy sharp toothed worm that our vet couldn't even identify, and the Loma's are impacted and bloated. Wow! Dr. Frye to the rescue. I hope we can get past this, but I'm a bit worried about a few of these kids!

Oophaga Pumilio Rambala

Not much to report these days so I thought I'd pull out a couple photos that I forgot to post a while back. These are the photos I was originally sent when I purchased my Rambalas. I loved the crispness of the marking on the male (lower frog) in the first photo and the spotting of the male (left) in the second. I couldn't decide between the two pairs so I took both.

Tales from the Frog Room

A few updates from the frog room. The Frye Darkland pair unfortunately turned out to be two very volatile males, which quickly had to be separated; the Frye Golfitos have been cautiously getting to know their new home; and the rest of the quarantined frogs got a clean bill of health from Wasatch Exotic Pet Care and went into their permanent homes this week. The fine spot Bastimentos and Rambalas settled in and started exploring right away. It's been difficult to get pictures, but here are a couple that show their coloring fairly well.

One of the Golfitos has decided this film canister is his/her favorite spot to hang out.  I can almost always find him/her there.

I found one of the Popa kids running around today. This is the first time I've seen them since right after they came OOTW over two months ago.

And lastly, the first of the Bastimentos Salt Creek kids went to their new home with Ed. I couldn't be happier with this placement! He took the first calling male from my F1s and an unrelated female that I purchased with the group. She was too young to sex until she paired with my male last month so I figured she'd be a good match for this little guy. I know Ed will take great care of them!
